Video Teaching Workshop and Micro-credentials

Video Teaching Workshop and Micro-credentials

Creating and using video for learning is a contemporary teaching skill. EDU’s video teaching workshop and the associated micro-credential programme help educators develop, demonstrate and document competencies in incorporating video technology into their teaching practices to enhance students’ learning experiences.

The micro-credential programme enhances the following competencies:

  1. Educational video content: Develop and produce educational videos that are engaging, clear, and tailored specifically for the intended audience. This includes creating content that is not only informative but also captivating and suitable for the learners’ needs in the context of specific courses;
  2. Curriculum integration and assessment: Demonstrate ability to incorporate video content into the curriculum and assessments. This includes leveraging videos for diverse learning styles, enhancing student engagement, and providing varied and dynamic educational experiences that cater to a diverse student body. The focus is on the strategic use of video technology not only as an instructional tool but also as means for evaluation and communication, such as designing video-based assignments and using videos to provide constructive feedback; and
  3. Technical skills in video production: Show proficiency in using video editing software, knowledge of various video formats, and adeptness in handling the technicalities involved in the production and distribution to students of video content for learning. The focus is on making videos students could reasonably be asked to watch, i.e. not just filming a lecture.

Earning the Credential

To earn the micro-credential, the candidate must:

  • attend a workshop on using video in teaching, which covers guidelines about content, practical skills in video production, strategies for integrating videos into various learning environments, and ways to make video content accessible and engaging for all students; and
  • submit a video demonstrating their competency in video content creation, designing and implementing video into curriculum and assessments, and providing a reflective analysis of their approach and experiences.
