Welcome to the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching and Supporting Learning in Higher Education (PGCert) programme offered by the Educational Development Unit (EDU). This programme has been meticulously designed to cater to experienced university educators, as well as those new to teaching at a higher education level. Our aim is to equip you with the skills necessary to enhance your students’ learning experience.
The PGCert programme is accredited by Advance HE. Successful completion will lead to recognition at Fellowship (Descriptor 2) level, evidencing how the Professional Standards Framework 2023 (PSF 2023) is incorporated into your teaching practice.
The curriculum of this programme is based on reflection which links practice. It offers you the chance to develop your teaching techniques through self-evaluation and by understanding your students’ learning experience. You will also share and compare pedagogic strategies across various academic disciplines. Welcome aboard the enriching journey of enhancing your teaching skills.
Programme Overview
PGCert participants: PGC 401 and 402 are mandatory, as is a third module. Enrollees can choose one module from 403, 404, 405 or 406. However, PGC 402 is the capstone module of the programme and must be completed last. Completing PGC 401, as well as one optional module, will better inform the enrollee’s formation of a research question, data gathering tool, and literature review when action research (research into one’s own teaching practice) is conducted.

Induction
As part of your induction into the programme, we will hold sessions before the start of semester one and typically in the first week of semester two to help you familiarise yourselves with the PGCert and the PSF 2023.
Throughout the programme, there will be weekly seminars and workshops, generally held on Wednesdays from 16:00 to 18:00 (China Standard Time). These will occur in Room HSG02 on South Campus in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) or at the Taicang base. Depending on the session leader’s availability, some sessions may take place at different times.
As a participant, you must attend all seminars and workshops and complete the corresponding assessments for your enrolled modules within the registration period. We advise sequential attendance for the workshops to best prepare you for the assessments.
Registration
Successful registration is essential for all PGCert participants. If you are interested in the PGCert as a staff member, you can log into e-Bridge with your university account and password to apply for the programme. A member of the PGCert Programme Team will assist you in completing the online application process should you encounter any difficulties. The e-Bridge system is the web-based student information system at XJTLU and is available for students and staff to access and perform a variety of tasks.
If there is any problem with your e-Bridge account or its functions, please contact ebridge@xjtlu.edu.cn for assistance.
If you have any questions about the PGCert, please contact the Programme Director, Yu (Lissy) Wang, at yu.wang@xjtlu.edu.cn.
