Peer Observation Training

Peer Observation Training

The importance of peer observation

Peer observation plays a vital role in fostering both personal and collective teaching excellence. By participating in peer observation, educators gain valuable insights into their teaching practices and those of their colleagues, creating a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration. These observations encourage reflective practice and help educators identify strengths and areas for growth while also providing constructive feedback to peers. This process not only enhances individual teaching skills but also contributes to the overall quality of education within the institution.

Grounded in the PSF 2023

Our Peer Observation Training is meticulously designed around Advance HE’s Professional Standards Framework 2023 (PSF 2023). This framework integrates both theoretical foundations and practical applications, ensuring that our training is robust and comprehensive. By aligning with the PSF 2023, we guarantee that our approach is informed by the latest educational research and best practices, and we will provide participants with a deep understanding of effective teaching methodologies and professional values.

Achieving expert peer status

Upon successful completion of our Peer Observation Training, academic staff will attain the expert peer status. This recognition not only signifies a high level of proficiency in conducting peer observation but also qualifies participants to provide expert peer observation for colleagues pursuing their PGCerts, provided they have also completed the PGCert programme. This expert status is a testament to the participant’s commitment to teaching excellence and professional development.

Training overview

Our Peer Observation Training is a comprehensive programme that combines asynchronous and synchronous learning activities. Participants will start by asynchronously reviewing a class, allowing for flexible learning that fits into busy schedules. This is followed by in-depth learning about the PSF dimensions, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct meaningful peer observations. The training culminates in a synchronous group discussion, where participants can share their insights, discuss their experiences, and engage in collaborative learning. This blend of independent and group activities ensures a rich, engaging, and effective training experience.

Join us in this transformative journey to enhance your teaching practice and contribute to the collective growth of our educational community. We look forward to supporting you in becoming an expert peer observer and a champion of teaching excellence.
