How Galactic Environments regulate Giant Molecular Clouds

Abstract:

In this talk, I will present the spatially-resolved studies of giant molecular clouds in WISDOM (mm-Wave Interferometric Survey of Dark Object Masses) galaxies. The talk will focus on the effects of galactic environments on the molecular clouds in galaxy centres. More specifically, I will discuss (i) how galactic shear and tidal forces affect molecular clouds in an early-type galaxy NGC4429; (ii) how gravitational instabilities regulate cloud/clump properties in a dwarf galaxy NGC404; (iii) and how galactic bar and gas inflow affect molecular clouds in a barred spiral galaxy NGC5806.
