Abstract:
Tidal disruption event (TDE) is one of the major scientific goals in the ongoing and coming time-domain surveys. A key question about TDE is the event rate. The TDE rate has been studied for roughly 50 years, solely focused on the rate of full TDE, which destroys the intruding star completely. However, there is no detailed study on the rate of partial TDE, which only strips the outer layers of the intruding star. In this talk, I will introduce the characteristics of full and partial TDE, the conventional way to compute the event rate of full TDEs, and how does the process of partial TDE modifies the rates of both full and partial TDEs. Then present the results of N-body simulations. Finally, I will discuss two interesting features of the partial TDEs that could be caught by observations.
