Research Interest
Dr. Wei-Lie Xiao has been engaged in natural product chemistry, biological medicines, and drug design and new drug development, based mainly on the medicinal effects of traditional Chinese herbal medicine. (1) Systematic research on the chemical constituents of medicinal plants. Up to now, 1500 compounds were isolated and characterized, including more than 400 new ones, especiallya series of novel compounds possessing 15 new carbon skeletons. (2) Some of the isolates were evaluated for their effects on anti-HIV-1, cytotoxic, and anti-neurodegenerative bioactivities. Their preliminary structure-activity relationships were also discussed. (3) One compound named as Erbenanzhi (SJP-L-5) showed potent anti-HIV-1 bioactivity with newmechanism of action, which can act as a leading compound in anti-HIV drug development.
In total, 170 papers were published. As the first author or corresponding (co-corresponding) author, the applicant has published more than 70 peer-review articles in international journals like Nat. Prod. Rep. (IF=10.178, 1 paper), Org. Lett. (IF=6.142, 9 papers), and J. Nat. Prod.( IF=3.285, 11 papers). He also presided over 20 grants includingNational Natural Science Funds for outstanding Young Scholar, the Special National Major Drug Discovery, National Natural Science Foundation projects and other types of projects.
