Knowledge and skills
By the time you graduate from the MRes Management programme, you will have:
- an in-depth knowledge of the elements that constitute research;
- an in-depth understanding of the research process and the logic underpinning it;
- research skills gained through a study completed in the dissertation module;
- improved understanding of the structure of research papers and how they are written; and
- improved written and presentation skills.
Based on our experiences, we know only too well how frustrating and confusing it can be to understand research. However, here at IBSS, we are pleased to say that we have developed a degree which provides you with a clear understanding about the nature of research and how it can be undertaken. We have assembled a small group of lecturers who will help you to develop this understanding. Your learning will take place in a relaxed and friendly environment, with access to IBSS's excellent facilities. The university offers a broad range of activities aiming to enrich master students’ theoretical and experiential learning and professional development. Trainings, workshops and seminars, covering varieties of themes and topics, both generic and subject-specific, are often offered at both university and school/department levels. Additionally, IBSS programmes offer discipline- specific supplementary modules which will aid to broaden your knowledge in that specific field and enhance your skills. These would include opportunities to work as a teaching assistant, research assistant, or intern at XJTLU. Depending on the programme, field trips and company visits will be organized, and invited talks will be given by the industrial experts and professionals. All these activities will not only support you in your programme study, but also develop your personal and professional skills and enhance your overall career and employability.
Careers
A student awarded the MRes Management would be well-prepared to study for a PhD and then enter academia. An alternate path would be to work for businesses in which research plays a central role, including those organisations engaged in market research and research consultancy.
Overview
The MRes Management will foster students’ understanding and critical appreciation of aspects of research in the business and management field, including research paradigms, research methodologies (both qualitative and quantitative), data collection techniques, and theories. The programme will equip students with a clear understanding of what constitutes quality research and familiarise them with the research process from inception to project completion.
The programme’s overall goal is to develop researchers who are able to identify potential topics and avenues for research and ensure they have the skills to pursue their chosen study. It is well-suited for students interested in later pursuing a PhD. The MRes Management is one way IBSS will identify students suited for further study.
