Department of Health and Environmental Sciences

A major challenge for the coming centuries is to balance human progress and economic development with measures to safeguard the earth’s environment, for our own health, as well as for the persistence of other forms of life. Our mission at the Department of Health and Environmental Science is to prepare our students to be key figures in meeting this challenge. Our faculty consists of innovative scientists with diverse trainings and research interests -- biologists, chemists and physicists – all focusing on applying their science towards ecological, environmental, and public health issues. If you are passionate about these issues, please learn more about our research and teaching, and contact us. We will work with you to increase your knowledge base, develop new skills, and maximize your creativity, so as to be prepared for a dynamic career that will contribute towards a sustainable future.

The Department of Health and Environmental Sciences combines distinctive disciplinary approaches to understand and solve some of the most critical challenges faced by society today.

In our programmes, we provide our students with the theoretical and practical foundations needed for a successful career working to improve the health and well-being of populations and the environment. Our students gain a strong grounding in natural and social sciences, as well as medical humanities, in order to develop a holistic view of the complex processes contributing to the health of populations, and those behind globalised environmental issues.

Our research is brought directly into the classroom, providing a learning and teaching experience that combines theory with the most current knowledge in public health and environmental science.
