Recently, upon the approval of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Prof. Sun Qiuye and Prof. Yang Dongsheng from NEU’s College of Information Science and Engineering were selected as IET fellows.
IET is Europe’s largest and the world's second largest (only second to IEEE) international professional institute, and an internationally well-known professional academic body in the electronics and electric field. Its Inspec is available for searching the abstracts of engineering and research papers worldwide. Inspec is a leading index of engineering publications in English in the world, providing professional information indexing service, with the information covering more than 10 million science and technology papers, professional technical journals and other publications in different languages worldwide. IET was formerly the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE). Founded in 1871, it was originally known as the Institute of Telegraph Engineers, and was formally renamed the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEE) in 1888. In 2006, IEE and the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) merged and was renamed the Institute of Engineering Technology (IET). IET's professional classification covers five major industries: energy and electricity, transportation, information and communication, design and manufacturing, and building environment, with more than 40 professional fields. IET Fellow is the highest academic honor in IET, which is awarded to outstanding scholars and senior technical professionals who have demonstrated a strong sense of responsibility and leadership in science and engineering technology globally. IET selects about 200 IET fellows every year, among which 10-20 are selected from mainland China.
