Recently, the final of the 9th National University Students’ Opt-Sci-Tech Competition was held in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. A total of 119 teams from 57 universities, including Zhejiang University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Fudan University, Xi’an Jiaotong University and NEU, were selected for the national finals. After fierce competition, two teams led by teachers Wang Qi and Yan Xin from NEU’s College of Information Science and Engineering respectively won the national first prize for the “Intelligent Garbage Sorting Trolley” group and the second prize for the “Smart Phone-based Nondestructive Measurement of Apple Sugar” group, and the two teachers won the honor of “Excellent Tutors” in the national final. This is the first time for NEU to send teams to participate in this competition.
The National University Students’ Opt-Sci-Tech Competition is an important optical science competition for the college students nationwide. It is sponsored by the Chinese Optical Society and specifically responsible by the National University Students’ Opt-Sci-Tech Competition Committee, with the Optical Education Committee of the Chinese Optical Society on behalf of the organizers. The competition provides a national authoritative exchange platform for students of optoelectronics and related majors to comprehensively utilize their knowledge to carry out scientific research and practice activities.
The National University Students’ Opt-Sci-Tech Competition is a significant national competition about sci-tech innovation in the Ranking List of Competitions for College Students by China Association of Higher Education, and a five-star competition identified by the NEU’s Classification of Stars of Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competitions. In 2021, the 9th National University Students’ Opt-Sci-Tech Competition was organized by Shenzhen University. The event attracted1,925 projects from 227 universities in seven competition areas across the country, with nearly 10,000 students and teachers participating in the competition.
