Orientation week held for year 2021 entering students

The College launched a series of activities to welcome year 2021 entering students from 30 August to 4 September, 2021. In light of the actual situation of the University and the College as well as in accordance with the requirements of pandemic prevention and control, the College carried out an orientation week to welcome new students, including the enrollment, the opening ceremony & the teacher-student meeting, the orientation for new students, the lecture of mental health and the meeting between fresh and senior students.



On 30 August, under the leadership of the administrative office, the staff of the College Student Union set up a 'one-stop' orientation booth in the hall of the ground floor of the Research Building, organising the new students to complete the enrollment process in an orderly manner in accordance with steps including ID verification, materials receiving and materials distribution.


On the afternoon, the College held a meeting of the temporary conveners of new students in the conference room A609 of the Research Building. Chair of the College Council Wang Fang, Director of the Administrative Office Liu Ming, Staff Sun Yang and Zhou Fangzheng, as well as the temporary conveners from each class of the 2021 entering students attended the meeting. The teachers introduced the activities of the Orientation Week to the conveners to ensure the success of the activities.



On the morning of 31 August, the deans of the College visited the new students in their residents. They exchanged views on their life and study with the students after they arrived at the college, concerned to ask students how they adapt to a new living environment and a different pace of life, and helped them to solve practical difficulties.



On the afternoon of 1 September, the Opening Ceremony for Year 2021 Entering Students of the College was held in the Auditorium of the Research Building. Members of the college leadership team, all the faculty in Beijing, outstanding alumni representatives, student representatives, as well as all the class of 2021 freshmen attended the meeting. Wang Fang presided over the ceremony.


At the ceremony, Professor Fei Anling, as the teacher's representative, first gave a speech. She extended warm welcome and congratulations to the new students, and then put forward valuable advice to the students from the 'romantic life','happy learning', 'time cherishing' and other aspects.


Subsequently, Director of the Institute of Social Law of the School of Civil Business and Economic Law of CUPL Professor Lou Yu, as a representative of outstanding alumni, expressed his congratulations with key words "ten years" and "sentiment" to the students on their matriculation to the College, and put forward his expectations of ability gaining, character forming and sentiment keeping.  


On behalf of the class of 2020, student Wang Shuang shared her ideas on how to deal with the challenges of the postgraduate life from three aspects: to be long-term, to build up strength and to be confident. Later, on behalf of the Class 2021, new student Sun Qilong expressed his desire from postgraduate study and his hope that all coursemates could learn something and gain something.



Finally, Dean of the College Professor Xie Zhiyong delivered a speech expressing his hope and blessing for the new students on how to spend the postgraduate time. He hoped that the students would carry out the University's motto of "keep integrity and law in mind and studying for the people, developing moral education, mastering the law, looking for truth and serving for the public", have the courage to assume their responsibilities, hone their qualities, and determine to contribute to the cause of the rule of law. He wished all new students a full, pleasant, memorable time at the College.


Afterwards, Wang Fang briefed the new students on the history, the structure and the leadership and the main heads of each institute of the College. Following this, teachers who were present gave a brief self-introduction to the students.



After the ceremony, the college held a meeting between teachers and new students. Each institute organised educational activities for their students and introduced the characteristics of the institutes in detail. The two parties got familiar with each other during the Q&A section.



On the morning of 2 September, the orientation for new students was held in lecture room 0101 of the Comprehensive Building. Wang Fang, Director of the Administrative Office Liu Ming, Deputy Director Li Li, Staff Sun Yang and Zhou Fangzheng attended the meeting. The meeting was moderated by Liu Ming.


At the meeting, Wang Fang expressed her welcome to the new students and put forward suggestions and requirements for their study and daily life. She asked the students to strictly abide by the requirements of University epidemic prevention and control, and to raise their safety awareness. Students were advised to do a thorough learning plan to live a full life in graduate school.


Subsequently, Sun Yang introduced in detail the College's training program as well as the selection of modules and other requirements. Li Li introduced the College's international programmes with the US, Germany, Australia and other countries. Then, Liu Ming introduced in detail the German exchange programme and other specific work. Finally, Zhou Fangzheng presented a detailed explanation on student and Party affairs.



On the afternoon of 2 September, the SU held an exchange meeting for new and old students in Room 0101 of the Comprehensive Building. They invited four year 2020 entering students Ma Ning, Yan Jinlin, Song Yang and Chen Yuxi to share their experience in study, life, internship and employment. Ma shared his thoughts on essay writing and academic planning. Yan focused on internship and innovative projects. Song introduced in detail the main contents of the course during the first period of study. Chen shared his experiences on overseas programmes and legal aid internships.



On the morning of 3 September, Associate Professor Xu Jingjing from the Mental Health Education and Consultation Center of the CUPL was invited as the keynote speaker to give a lecture on the First Class of New Students: Psychological Adjustment and Adaptation in the New Term. Xu introduced the types of psychological crisis in detail with examples, and shared with the students the methods of discovering, checking and dealing with psychological crisis. The lecture provided the new students with great help to adapt to the unfamiliar environment on new campus as soon as possible.


The Orientation came to a successful conclusion after the series of activities.
