German Federal Minister of Justice visits China-Germany Law Institute

At the China-Germany Law Institute's invitation, the German Federal Minister of Justice Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger visited the institute and gave a speech on  Aspects of the Rule of Law to the students yesterday afternoon. The speech was moderated by dean of the China-Germany Law Institute Associate Prof. Xie Libin. Deputy dean from German side Prof. Marco Hasse,   approximately 100 faculty and students and more than 20 German experts, scholars and staff from the delegation attended it.

Ms. Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger first reviewed the good relationship and rapid develoment between China and Germany in terms of diploma, politics, trade and culture since the establishment of diplomatic ties 40 years ago. Then, she started the speech with the concept and function of the Rule of Law in Germany, and pointed out that a nation is responsible for a citizen's human dignity and individual freedom. She also introduced the issues and solutions Germany came across during the process of building a country governed according to law in the history.

On the interaction session, Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger had a warm discussion with the audiences and she presented brilliant answered to the questions referring to the implementation of constitution, the independence of judges, Party system, the abolition of the death penalty and the judicial remedy.
