Professor Xu Xiaohe from University of Texas at San Antonio was invited by Culture and Arts College to give an academic lecture entitled asHow Do Social Scientists Conduct Public Health and Substance Abuse Prevention Research in American Universities.The lecture was hosted by Liao Simei, Dean of Culture and Arts College, with the attendance of students of 2015 and 2016 grades and teachers of Institute of Social Work and Community Development.
After the lecture, students had in-depth discussion with the professor on their interested issues.
Started from American social culture and the public physical and mental health services, Professor Xu explained typical problems of the public physical and mental health services shown in American social culture and the social personalization features by using data statistics and photo materials. The practical challenges that each States of American faced included: drug control, HIV prevention and treatment, the homeless population management, suicide prevention and so on. These problems, which had great impact on the public physical and mental health, faced huge pressure from the public and the government strategy. Xu introduced opioid use and misuse,legalization of marijuana use,underage drinking and DUI,obese and diabetes,HIV infection and transmission, especially among minorities and MSM by the article named Current Needs for Health Research.
