(KPL) Around 100 students and teachers representing Mixay Primary School, Thatkhao Primary School and Dara Kindergarten attended a ceremony on Wednesday marking International Literacy Day (Sep. 8) at the National Library, Vientiane Capital.
The event was organized by the National Library in cooperation with Room to Read, featuring activities aiming to raise awareness of education importance.
"September 8 was proclaimed International Literacy Day by UNESCO on November 17, 1965. It was first celebrated in 1966 with the aim of highlighting the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies,"said Vice Director of the National Library, Ms. Bouakhay Phengphachanh.
