MEMBERS of Sengkurong Library's Children and Youth Club got the chance to engage in educational activities with the library once again this school-term break.

On Monday morning, members took part in a Malay Language workshop conducted by personnel from the Language and Literature Bureau. In this workshop, the youths learned more about the language and proper grammar. In the afternoon, the children had fun with a "Search for the Hidden Picture" activity.

In the past week, the library had prepared activities such as arts and crafts, composition challenges, colouring, drawing and language-based activities.

The objective of these activities, according to librarian Hjh Piah HjSamsudin, is to fill in the youths' holiday with meaningful and educational activities, as well as to encourage them to be more active in attending library events.

Hjh Piah said that there has been an increase in awareness within the community about the library and its activities. Since its establishment in 2009, the library has seen a steady increase in members and book-loaning. The Sengkurong Library currently has 908 children, 853 youth and 641 adults registered with the library.

"In 2012, there was a total of 12, 474 book-loans that were recorded with the library. It is good that the people are more aware of the library now, compared to back in the 70s or 80s. We see that more parents are willing to send their children here to study or read during the holidays and even weekends," added Hjh Piah.

The school holiday activities will come to an end on March 20.

For more information on the library's activities during the school holidays, call the Sengkurong Library at 2671384 or 2671385. The library opens from Sunday to Thursday at 8am to 5pm and on Saturdays from 9am to5pm. The Brunei Times
