Regulations regarding required journal-paper publications for graduate candidates in
College of Physical Science and Technology
According to rules of Graduate School of Xiamen University [2014]31, and for the purpose of elevating the quality of graduate students in our college, regulations regarding required journal-paper publications are described below.
1. Prior to applying for Ph.D. degrees, doctoral students (including foreign students) must have published journal papers related to areas of their majors, with themselves as the first author and the College of Physical Science and Technology of Xiamen University as the first affiliation. In particular, students who apply for science Ph. D. degrees must have published at least one paper in JCR-second-tiered journals (or higher) or two papers in other journals belonging to science citation index (SCI). Students who apply for engineering Ph. D. degrees must have published at least one paper in JCR-second-tiered journals (or higher), or two papers in other journals belonging to science citation index (SCI), or one paper in other journals belonging to SCI and one paper belonging to engineering index (EI).
A provincial or ministerial level academic award (above second prize, and the student should be at least the fourth contributor if it is a first prize and the first or second contributor if it is a second prize). Also, the award can be sub-provincial but those issued by Xiamen University should be excluded.) or a granted patent (if the supervisor is the first author and the student is the second author, then the student can be treated as the first author) related to areas of the Ph. D. dissertation is equivalent to the publication of one JCR fourth-tiered paper. If a student has acquired several patents, these patents can only be converted to one academic paper.
2. Prior to applying for master degree, graduate students (including foreign students) must have published at least one paper related to areas of majors, with themselves as the first author and the College of Physical Science and Technology of Xiamen University as the first affiliation (if the supervisor is the first author and the student is the second author, then the student can be treated as the first author), or must have received a granted patent for invention, utility model, design, or software copyright (if the supervisor is the first author and the student is the second author, then the student can be treated as the first author).
3. Papers published in JCR journals are considered to be included in the SCI, whereas JCR ranking should be standardized by the latest edition published by the school. Papers published in journals not listed in JCR can only be included if they are associated with SCI numbers or EI numbers.
4. Galley proofs (but excluding conference proceedings) can be regarded as published papers if supervisors have signed to confirm the validity.
5. There are no specific requirements for professional-degree graduates with one certificate.
6. For graduate students with subjects engaged in national secrets, requirements for their papers are considered according to the document of Graduate School of Xiamen University [2006]31.
7. For graduate students who fail to meet the above requirements, the academic-degree evaluation committee does not accept their applications.
8. Present regulations apply to students who have entered the university after 2014 (including 2014).
9. Present regulations will be interpreted by the academic-degree evaluation committee.
