Recently, Dr. Penghui Zhang and Dr. Dan Bai were both joined BEBC and became important members of our big family. Here, we express a warm welcome to them and hope they enjoy the time in BEBC.

Dr. Penghui Zhang

Dr. Penghui Zhang received his B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering and Technology from Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology in 2008 and 2011. He got his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry in 2015 from Nanjing University. Since 2015, he joined in the School of Life Science & Technology of Xi’an Jiaotong University.

Dr. Zhang has published 20 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., ACS Nano, Chem. Commun., Anal. Chem., NPG Asia Material, etcHis current research interest is focusing on the following topics: 1. fabricating smart nanocarriers with stimuli-responsive polymers for precise cancer treatment and diagnosis. 2. manipulating the surfaces of nanoparticles, hydrogels and biomaterial interfaces for drug delivery, cell capture, and material engineering. 3. designing multifunctional nanoprobes for in vitro and in vivo imaging, and point-of-care diagnosis.

Research Interests: drug delivery, cell imaging, smart polymer synthesis, cell microenvironment, point-of-care.

Dr. Dan Bai

Dr. Dan Bai received BSc degree (2007) in Applied Chemistry from Xi’an Shiyou University and Troy University. In 2007-08 she worked at the Gene Therapy Research Centre, Beijing Ditan Hospital, followed by achieving an MSc degree (2008) in Drug Chemistry from Newcastle University. In 2009-2013 Dr. Bai completed her PhD degree then worked as a research fellow at the Molecular Photonics Laboratory, Newcastle University. In 2014 she was appointed lecturer at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, School of Medicine, Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2014. In 2015-2017, Dr. Bai worked as a visiting researcher at the Department of Molecular Design and Engineering, Nagoya University. In 2017 Dr. Bai joined the BEBC.

Dr. Bai’s current research is focused on (i) Design and synthesis of aptamer based theranostic agents for point-of-care (POC) testing; (ii) Develop novel molecular probe for optical mapping of cellular microenvironment.
