Research

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences is home to internationally recognised research in the humanities and social sciences. XJTLU research in social sciences is currently in the world top 1% in terms of citations received (according to Essential Science Indicators or ESI).

Prioritised research areas in the School include but are not limited to:

  • social changes in China
  • China’s cultural interaction with the world
  • media and communication
  • translation practice and language learning in Chinese and global contexts

In addition, the School conducts research as part of the University Research Centre in Culture, Communication, and Society, with emerging strengths in the Centre’s clusters of:

  • heritage and culture
  • environmental humanities
  • language and technology
  • health humanities

The School currently publishes an academic journal with Liverpool University Press, International Journal of English for Academic Purposes: Research and Practice (IJEAP).

The School also organises an annual international conference on cutting-edge research themes in the field of humanities and social sciences., as well as running humanities and social sciences research seminars throughout the year. This includes the “Romantic Horizons” seminar series on literature and culture of the Romantic period, which attracts high-profile speakers from around the world.
