Event Review | WEC Team Collaborates with Industry Professionals to Discuss Talent Requirements in the Financial Industry

Recently, the Work placement, Employability and Career Development (WEC) team at International Business School Suzhou (IBSS) successfully hosted the “Exploring the Corporate World - Financial Industry Sharing Event”. The event brought together senior company executives, outstanding IBSS alumni, and an IBSS professor from banking, securities, investment background to discuss the talent requirements and development trends within the financial industry, and to provide valuable career advice to our students.

The event was chaired by Ms Hailu Hou, the career counsellor from IBSS WEC Team, and the invited panel members include: Dr Honglin Xu, Vice President of Shenwan Hongyuan Securities (Suzhou Branch), Mr Yong Yan, General Manager of the Information Technology Department of China Bohai Bank (Suzhou Branch), Mr Zihao Wang, Investment Director of Addor Capital, and Dr Haili Wu, Associate Professor of Practice in Economics at IBSS. Each of them provided in-depth analysis of the core business of the financial industry, global market change, potential opportunities and challenges from their perspectives.

Mr Yong Yan first elaborated on the three pillars of banking business: deposits, loans, and remittances, emphasizing that fresh graduate should start from basic positions, gradually accumulate experience, comprehensively understand banking business, and choose the career path that suits them. He specifically pointed out that the banking industry highly values customer communication, risk control, and innovation ability, and reminded students to be both strong in execution and thoughtful in the workplace.

• Dr Honglin Xu, Vice President of Shenwan Hongyuan Securities (Suzhou Branch)

Dr Honglin Xu focused on the core business of securities companies, including wealth management, asset management, and investment banking, emphasizing the high demand for academic background and the rapid learning ability especially for investment banking field. He advised our students to obtain relevant industry certifications, and adopt AI tools to enhance learning ability, building a strong personal knowledge base and resource base for future use.

• Mr Zihao Wang, Investment Director of Addor Capital

As an outstanding alumnus of the IBSS MSc Investment Management programme, Mr Zihao Wang shared key business from the perspective of investment companies and advised our students to expand their network and enrich their knowledge base through reading and internships. He encouraged students to keep up with national policy guidance, explore emerging industries, and emphasized the importance of finding a career they truly love.

• Dr Haili Wu, Associate Professor of Practice in Economics at IBSS

Dr Haili Wu explained the relationship between finance and economics. She advised students to pay attention to recent hot news, read professional magazines, and cultivate critical thinking skills. She emphasized that whether choosing employment or further study, students should be hardworking and cultivate a teamwork spirit.

The financial industry sharing event received a lot of positive feedback from our students. They expressed that the event not only gave them a more thorough understanding of the operation of the financial industry, but also strengthened their in-depth thinking about career planning. Ms Hailu Hou added, “ The WEC team is committed to providing students with high-quality career counseling, activities, trainings, and relevant resources to support their career development. We will continue to hold a series of roundtable forums covering various industries, including accounting, consulting, E-commerce, and manufacturing, to meet the needs of different student groups. We hope that students will keep a close eye on and actively participate in these activities to continuously broaden their horizons, improve their abilities and reduce the gap with employers.”
