Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University has been ranked in five of the 11 Times Higher Education (THE) World Subject Rankings 2021, which were announced 28 October.
XJTLU:
- Ranked in the 201–250 band in Computer Science
- Ranked 201–250 in Social Sciences
- Ranked 251–300 in Engineering
- Ranked 401–500 in Business and Economics
- Ranked 501–600 in Physical Sciences
These latest THE subject rankings reveal the global leading institutions across the 11 subject areas, providing an overview of the best places in the world to study a chosen discipline.
“It is very gratifying that XJTLU has done so well in this first year of appearance in the THE World University Subject Rankings,” said David Goodman, XJTLU’s Vice President for Academic Affairs.
“In particular, the performance of Computing, Social Sciences, and Engineering suggests we are well on the way to reaching our goal of being in the top 500 of universities in the world and the top 30 of those in China well before the target year of 2028.”
In the overall 2021 ranking for universities, XJTLU was in the top 601-800 band.
Eligibility for THE subject rankings includes both a publication and academic staff threshold by discipline. The performance indicators are in the categories of teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income. The ranking methodology is recalibrated for each subject, with weightings changed to suit individual fields.
A record 1,512 institutions are ranked in the 2021 Subject Rankings across the designated subject areas, with 522 newly ranked this year.
