Professor Zhiwei Shan, distinguished professor and doctoral supervisor, is currently Assistant President and the Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Deputy Director of the National Key Laboratory on the Strength of Metal Materials, member of the Discipline Evaluation Group (Materials Group) of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council of China, and member of the Materials Teaching Reference Committee of the Ministry of Education. He is also a member of the expert group of structural materials guidelines of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Executive Deputy Editor of the journal China Materials Progress.
Professor Shan has long been committed to providing support and guidance for the design, preparation and application of macroscopic high-quality materials, especially magnesium-based new materials, by exploring the initiation and evolution laws of plastic support for metal structural materials.
In 2018, he was invited to give a conference report at the 19th International Microscopy Congress, being the only Chinese scholar (including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) who has given a conference report in this series of conferences so far. His research achievements won second prize in the 2016 National Natural Science Awards and first prize in the 2017 and 2022 Shaanxi Science and Technology Awards.
Professor Shan has published more than 120 papers in journals including Science, Nature, and Nature Materials. He built the country’s first low-cost high-quality magnesium production demonstration line and won the International Magnesium Association’s 2021 Person of the Year Award and the 2022 Process Innovation Award. A teaching team led by Professor Shan was selected for the first round of the national initiative of University “Huang Danian” Teaching Teams.
