Recently, Professor Wu Peng received formal invitations from Springer Publishing Group and John Benjamins Publishing Group to assume the roles of Executive Editor of the international journal Argumentation and Co-Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Argumentation in Context starting January 1, 2025. He will be the first Asian scholar to join the editorial teams of both journals since their inception.
Argumentation is the official journal of the International Society for the Study of Argumentation (ISSA), founded in the 1980s. Indexed in both SSCI and A&HCI, it is the first professional journal and the only authoritative journal in the field of argumentation studies. It is also recognized as a leading international journal in philosophy, logic, linguistics, and communication studies. The journal primarily publishes original theoretical papers on argumentation from perspectives such as rhetoric, linguistics, discourse studies, communication, philosophy, and logic. Journal of Argumentation in Context, established in 2011, is the only international journal in argumentation studies focusing on argumentation phenomena in various institutional contexts, such as law, politics, academia, healthcare, and diplomacy. It is indexed in major databases such as ESCI and Scopus. Both Argumentation and Journal of Argumentation in Context were founded and are currently edited by Frans van Eemeren, President of the ISSA and a dual-appointed professor at the University of Amsterdam and Leiden University. Starting January 1, 2025, Argumentation will be managed by an editorial team comprising four editors-in-chief and a book review editor, with Professor Wu Peng serving as Executive Editor responsible for the journal’s daily operations. Journal of Argumentation in Context will also have a team of four editors-in-chief and a book review editor, with Professor Wu as one of the editors responsible for handling argumentation research papers in the fields of politics and diplomacy.
Professor Wu has been a member of the editorial board of Journal of Argumentation in Context since 2016 and of Argumentation since 2018. Over the years, he has reviewed more than 50 submissions for both journals and has frequently served as guest editor for special issues. His appointment as executive editor and co-editor-in-chief has received strong recommendations from the current editor-in-chief and unanimous recognition from both editorial boards.
