ICPM Welcomes 2024 New Students!
This fall, the International Construction and Project Management (ICPM) program at Tsinghua University warmly welcomed the incoming class of 2024. Today, we gathered at the The New Civil Engineering Building, Tsinghua University to celebrate this new beginning, and it was a memorable day for all.
Professor Li, the Dean of the Department of Construction Management at Tsinghua University, delivered an inspiring welcome speech to the incoming class of 2024, emphasizing the significance of their decision to join the ICPM program at one of the most prestigious universities in the world. He highlighted the unique opportunities that Tsinghua offers, both academically and culturally, and encouraged students to embrace the challenges and rewards that come with this new phase of their lives.
Professor Guo, the Academic Director of the Department of Construction Management, gave practical advice for the new students, focusing on how to maintain a healthy balance between their academic responsibilities and personal lives throughout their time in the program. He advised students to develop strong time-management skills early on, stressing the importance of organizing their schedules effectively to ensure they can meet deadlines, attend lectures, and participate in group projects without feeling overwhelmed. In addition to academic focus, Professor Guo encouraged students to embrace the social and cultural aspects of their experience at Tsinghua. He pointed out that building friendships, engaging in extracurricular activities, and exploring the rich history and vibrant life in Beijing are essential to personal growth and happiness.
Professor Liao, the Director of the ICPM program, provided a detailed and insightful overview of the professional courses that students will be engaging with throughout their academic journey. He began by highlighting the core courses contents include Safety Construction, Intelligent Construction, Green Construction, and Future Cities. These subjects, he explained, are at the heart of modern construction management and are critical for shaping the cities of tomorrow. Besides, Professor Liao shared that the ICPM program offers a wide range of electives, allowing students to tailor their learning to their interests and career goals. In closing, Professor Liao stressed that the curriculum is designed not only to provide technical expertise but also to foster critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a global perspective. He encouraged students to actively engage with the material and to take full advantage of the program’s resources and connections with industry leaders.
The ICPM Coordinator, Hongmin Luan, shared essential academic guidelines, including course selection, thesis preparation deadlines, and other important academic procedures.
After the formal presentations, students and faculty had the opportunity to introduce themselves and get to know one another. This exchange helped to foster a sense of community and prepare students for their exciting academic and life journey here in China.
