Title: Performance Appraisal and Performance Management: A Research Program

Abstract:

I began studying performance appraisal processes almost 40 years ago. I will discuss the origins of that work, including a discussion of false starts and failures, and move on the describe a program of research that began with performance appraisals and moved on to performance management.  I will conclude with some recent work, some plans for the future, and some general conclusions that I have reached based on this long program of study.
