About the speaker:

Zang Fengyu received his Ph.D from Tsinghua University. He is now Professor and Dean of school of Philosophy at Renmin University of China. His main research focuses on Marxist philosophy, Modern political philosophy and Comparative philosophy.

Abstract:

Yangming’s Philosophy of heart-mind is not only the study of “cultivating the roots and consolidating the essence,” but also the study of “true understanding,” which is oriented to life itself. This lecture will examine the understanding of Yangming’s philosophy of heart-mind and the elements of practical philosophy in it for early Marxist philosophers in China. By doing this, I will provide a historical perspective in sorting out the combination of Marxist philosophy and the excellent Chinese traditional culture.
