On September 9, the final of the 11th China TRIZ Cup College Student Innovation Competition came to an end. 3 teams from NEU entered the national top 12 competition. They respectively ranked second, third and fourth with excellent results, sweeping 2 silver awards and 1 bronze award. Other group defense project finalists from NEU won 13 first prizes, 9 second prizes and 23 third prizes. Ma Mingxu and Sun Xiaofeng from the School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation and Lin Mingxiu from the College of Information Science and Engineering were awarded as “Excellent Instructors”. The number of national first prize winners from NEU accounted for 32% of the total number of first prizes in the competition, and the total number of the teams entering the national top 12 and the awards that NEU won ranked first among the universities nationwide. NEU was awarded “Excellent Organization Unit”, and in the final group defense review, two teachers from NEU were invited as the panel judges.
Themed "Cultivating Innovative Talents, Strengthening Real Economy", the 11th China TRIZ Cup College Student Innovation Competition was sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology and presented by the Innovation Method Society, the Department of Science and Technology of Heilongjiang Province, the Education Department of Heilongjiang Province, Heilongjiang Association for Science and Technology, and Heilongjiang Intellectual Property Administration. Since launched, the competition has received 2,637 entries from 355 universities in 30 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) across the country. After preliminary selection by experts, 494 entries were shortlisted for the final, and the top 200 teams participated in the on-site group defense review in the final. After intense competition, 41 first prizes, 122 second prizes, 337 third prizes, 28 excellent instructors, and 80 excellent organization units were generated. Among them, the top 2 in each student group of Invention and Production (3 groups), Process Improvement, Innovative Design, and Life Creativity entered the final defense to compete for 1 gold award, 2 silver awards and 3 bronze awards.
NEU has been attaching great importance to the competition participation and organization work. It has listed China TRIZ Cup College Student Innovation Competition as one of the six-star competitions that NEU participates in and actively constructed a chain competition organization model of "special courses - pre-competition coaching - targeted improvement - entrepreneurship incubation". So far, NEU has presented the Innovation Methods Competition in Liaoning Province for three consecutive years since 2021. To further reinforce the leading role of innovation methods in students' innovation and entrepreneurship and internalize innovation methods into students' basic skills, NEU began to conduct such activities as innovation methods training camps, senior students’ navigation, and masters’ lectures across the university from 2021. Since the 11th China TRIZ Cup College Student Innovation Competition was launched, NEU has actively organized selection activities. Hundreds of students were attracted, with 120 entries for the on-campus competition, which is a record high. After the on-campus selection competition, innovation methods training campers’ competition, and pre-national competition defense, 47 students’ works were recommended by NEU to participate in the national competition. NEU finally won 45 national awards, with the number of winning works and the level of awards it won leading the competition list for four consecutive years.
