During October 17-25, the 6th China College Students’ Material Heat Treatment Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition sponsored by the Chinese Chemical Engineering Society was successfully held. The competition lasted for nine days. Three teams of NEU, composed of teachers and students from the School of Material Science and Engineering, won the first prize, second prize and third prize respectively in the nationwide competition after the rounds of work speeches and basic knowledge Q&A at the stage of group contest, as well as heat treatment process design, online defense and judges' scoring in the final. Under the guidance of associate professor Cao Guangming from the State KeyLaboratory of Rolling and Automation, the work Study on the Rules of Whole-process Microstructure Evolution of High-strength Cu-Ni-Si Alloy Thin-strip Casting by students Shan Wenchao, Jia Zewei, Pan Shuai, Chen Jian and Ge Jinwei won the first prize with the fourth place in the final. NEU won the “Outstanding Organization Award”, and professor Xu Wei and associate professor Cao Guangming from the School of Material Science and Engineering won the title of “Outstanding Tutors”.
Affected by the epidemic of COVID-19, the competition this year was conducted online. The China College Students’ Material Heat Treatment Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition is anational competition for college students majoring in materials science and engineering and related specialties. Under the theme of “Apply knowledge to reach the peak”, the competition this time attracted more than 70 universities from all over the country, including Harbin Institute of Technology, Central South University, and Northwestern Polytechnical University, with a total of 199 teams selected. It was divided into two stages: the group contest and the final. The group contest was held in six venues, including Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Jiangsu University, Henan University of Science and Technology and Taiyuan University of Technology. 63 works were selected for the final after online defense and scoring by expert judges. The final was conducted in the way of video conference. The 63 teams randomly selected word questions on comprehensive knowledge of heat treatment technology, and each team was required to complete heat treatment process design and presentation production within the specified time.
