During May 13-14, the 15th National Conference on Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship was held in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province. The conference was sponsored by the Expert Working Group of the National Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program (hereinafter referred to as the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program) of the Ministry of Education and presented by China University of Mining and Technology. After undergoing limited recommendation and expert selection, eight works from NEU were selected for the final of the national conference and won two Best Creative Project awards, one My favorite Project and two Excellent Academic Paper. Among them, NEU at Qinhuangdao had three works in the shortlist and won one Excellent Academic Paper award. NEU achieved a grand slam of honors for innovation training projects at the conference, with the number of shortlisted works and award-winning works ranking first among universities in Liaoning Province. NEU made the best performance ever, and NEU at Qinhuangdao won the Excellent Organization Award.
Directed by teacher Ma Mingxu from the School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation, and jointly completed by Chu Yichen, Wang Yahui and Liu Jinwang, the innovation training project Movement Mechanism for Climbing up and down Stairs and Crossing Obstacles Based on Inchworm Bionics won the top honors of My Favorite Project and Best Creative Project at the conference. Directed by teacher Yang Dongsheng from the College of Information Science and Engineering, and jointly completed by Luo Chongwei, Xu Haisong and Xu Peisen, the innovation training project A New Type of Magnetic Levitation Bearing Drive Controller Based on Fault-Tolerant Control won the Best Creative Project award. The paper Quantitative Investigation on the Evolution Process and Characteristics of Black Land Protection Policy in China and the paper Study on the Formation Mechanism of Ba1-xSrxTiO3 and Photocatalytic Hydrogen Production won the Excellent Academic Paper award. The former was jointly completed by Li Zhenghong, Yang Yihan, Zhang Haoran, Wang Manru and Chen Xiaochuang under the guidance of teacher Lv Xiao from the School of Humanities and Law, and the latter was jointly completed by Liu Kefan, Mi Lijie etc. under the guidance of teacher Wang Haiwang from the School of Resources and Materials, NEU at Qinhuangdao. It was the first time that NEU won this award at the conference. Yang Dongsheng, Ma Mingxu and Lv Xiao won the Excellent Advisor award.
The National Conference on Undergraduate Innovation and Entrepreneurshipis an important annual display and exchange activity supported by the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program. As one of the great gatherings for the innovation and entrepreneurship of college students, it boasts the widest coverage, the greatest influence and the highest level. Themed 15 Years of Striving for a New Journey of Intellectual Innovation for the Future, the annual conference received a total of 872 projects recommended by universities and local education authorities, including 378 academic papers, 377 reform achievement projects and 117 entrepreneurship promotion projects. After going through the preliminary evaluation by experts in related disciplines and the check by the Expert Working Group of the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program, a total of 508 projects were selected for the final of the annual conference, including 195 academic papers, 243 reform achievement projects and 70 entrepreneurship promotion projects.
NEU has been valuing the important role of the National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Program in the cultivation of innovative and entrepreneurial talents. Since 2007, supported by the program, NEU has implemented more than 6,800 innovation training projects with more than 18,000 students involved. NEU has held academic paper competitions and innovation project achievement exhibitions for several successive years, and selected outstanding projects to participate in the annual conference. More than 20 works have been shortlisted for the annual conference final and won more than 10 awards of various kinds.
