On May 19, the Demonstration of NEU Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Science Center Construction Plan & Mathematics Discipline Construction Seminar was held in the NEU International Hotel in the form of online and offline combination. Ye Xiangdong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor from the University of Science and Technology of China, Professor Zhang Weinian from Sichuan University, Professor Zhang Ran from Jilin University, Professor Wu Boying from Harbin Institute of Technology, Professor Hu Xijun from Shandong University, Professor Ji Shuguan from Northeast Normal University, Professor Liu Zhenxin from Dalian University of Technology, Feng Xiating, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of NEU, Chai Tianyou, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor from NEU, as well as Wang Qiang and Wang Xingwei, vice-presidents of NEU were present at the seminar. Leaders of relevant functional departments and the College of Sciences, representatives of teachers from the Mathematics Department and of related disciplines attended the seminar. The seminar was chaired by Wang Xingwei.
The seminar was divided into two stages, namely demonstration of the Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Science Center Construction Plan and discussion on the construction of mathematics discipline, which were respectively chaired by professors Wu Boying and Wang Qiang from Harbin Institute of Technology.
At the stage of demonstration of the Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Science Center Construction Plan, Xu Zhangrun, Dean of the College of Sciences, and Professor Sun Huaqing from the Mathematics Department respectively delivered a report on the construction of mathematics discipline and the Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Science Center Construction Plan. The participating experts conducted full exchanges and demonstration from the aspects of platform construction, research direction, talent introduction and cultivation, remuneration, appraisal system, crossover and integration, system and mechanism, and talent training in the Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Science Center Construction Plan. Leaders of relevant functional departments of NEU made full exchanges on the construction of the Mathematics and Interdisciplinary Science Center from such aspects as doctoral program construction, interdisciplinarity, research projects, team construction, financial support, public housing management, and international cooperation.
At the stage of discussion on the construction of mathematics discipline, Professor Wu Boying from Harbin Institute of Technology and Professor Hu Xijun from Shandong University respectively exchanged and shared their experience in the construction of mathematics discipline at Harbin Institute of Technology and the history and culture of the development of mathematics discipline at Shandong University.
