The Smart Construction Machinery & Robotics Lab, led by Professor Jianfeng XU from the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, is dedicated topromoting the digitization, intelligence, and environmental sustainability of engineering machinery and construction robotics.
The lab’s objectives encompass:
(1) Advancing fundamental technologies such as self-perception, self-adaptation, self-learning, and autonomous decision-making for engineering machinery.
(2) Enhancing functionalitieslikemulti-sensory perception, fault diagnosis, high-precision positioning, and navigation.
(3) Establishing a comprehensive standard system forsmartengineering machinery.
(4) Improving operational efficiency, reducing energy consumption, and mitigating safety risks associated with human labor.
The lab focuseson key research directions, particularly in high-rise buildings, extensive tunnels, and earth-moving mining sites. The research initiativesinclude:
(1) Advancing critical technologies such as operational parameter optimization, electro-mechanical-hydraulic system diagnosis, and human-machine collaborative construction.
(2) Developing synchronized shield tunneling machines, unmanned bulldozers, and lunar surface construction robotics.
(3) Driving the application of research outcomes in smart perception, task planning, decision-making control, and human-machine interaction.
The lab will produce significant achievements and deliver comprehensive technical products. These endeavors play a pivotal role in shaping the foundational equipment necessary for the advancement of digital construction.
