From September 21st to 25th, 2024, the 21st "Huawei Cup" China Post-Graduate Mathematical Contest in Modeling, organized by the Degree and Postgraduate Education Development Center of the Ministry of Education and the Youth Science and Technology Center of the China Association for Science and Technology, was successfully held. A total of 20,247 entries from 521 postgraduate training institutions across all provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities, and special administrative regions of China participated, involving 60,741 contestants.
After two stages of evaluation—an online review followed by a centralized review—spanning nearly two months of serious and rigorous assessment, the final results were as follows: 242 teams won first prize (a winning ratio of 1.19%), 2,742 teams won second prize (a winning ratio of 13.54%), and 3,927 teams won third prize (a winning ratio of 19.39%).
Among the awardees, a team including ICARE student Long Hai’s project titled “Research on Optimal Allocation Strategy of Active Power in Wind Farms,” earned a third prize.
The team constructed a precise mathematical model to conduct an in-depth analysis of the operational status and characteristics of each unit within the wind farm. Based on this analysis, they proposed several active power distribution algorithms. These algorithms take into account not only natural factors such as wind speed and direction but also thoroughly consider the wake effect and mutual influences between units to achieve optimal allocation of active power within the wind farm.
Additionally, the team introduced a collaborative control algorithm for wind farms participating in grid frequency regulation, which effectively enhances the frequency regulation capability of wind farms and improves grid stability. Through simulation verification, the research confirmed the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed algorithms, providing strong technical support for the optimized operation and sustainable development of wind farms. This work earned them a Third Prize in the competition.
