On March 13, 2012, the School of Law sponsored the fourth in a series of university-wide academic forums commemorating CUPL’s 60th anniversary. The forum was titled “The Theory and Practice of Civil and Commercial Laws with Foreign Elements.” Supreme People’s Court Judge Song Jianli, who holds a Ph.D. in international economic law from Wuhan University, delivered a speech.

Judge Song Jianli spoke about current problems in China’s commercial trials, and also expounded on future issues relating to China’s civil and commercial laws with foreign elements. Using actual cases decided by the Supreme People's Court in 2011, Judge Song spoke about the doctrine of forum non conveniens, the doctrine of actual connections in the jurisdiction agreement, and the liquidation and dissolution of foreign-invested enterprises.
