The College of New Energy has a high-level teaching staff with excellent quality, pragmatism, innovation, and reasonable structure. Its staff includes academicians, national-level talents, and Central Plain Scholars as academic leaders, and professors/doctors as the backbone. Currently, it has 33 full-time teachers, 7 professors, 8 associate professors/senior laboratory technicians, and 31 doctoral (post-doctoral) people. It has entitled high-level talents 13 times including the academician of the European Academy of Sciences, academician of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, the National Hundred Thousand Talents Project, the outstanding contributions young and middle-aged expert, the special government allowances of the State Council, the New Century Excellent Talents Support Plan of the Ministry of Education, the Central Plain Scholar, the Henan Provincial Distinguished Professor, the Henan Provincial Scientific and Technological Innovation Outstanding Talent, and the Provincial Backbone Teacher. It possesses three provincial/departmental level innovation teams, i.e., the first batch of interdisciplinary innovative research groups in Henan province entitled Key Materials and Devices of Electrolyzed Water based Hydrogen and Hydrogen Fuel Cells, Henan Province level Efficient Energy Conversion Materials and High-Energy Batteries innovative science and technology team, and Henan Province level New Power Battery Electrode Materials innovative science and technology team. The Battery Technology Training Center of China Battery Industry Association (the only one in China) is at the College of New Energy. It is the standing director unit of China Battery Industry Association, the member of China Battery Standards Committee, the deputy director unit of China Battery Standards Committee, and a unit that has made outstanding achievements in the Chinese battery industry.
The College of New Energy currently has a backbone discipline group with special needs in Henan Province entitled Hydrogen Energy Science and Technology, and an interdisciplinary discipline of New Energy Science and Engineering. It is building the only future hydrogen energy technology college in Henan Province and has three undergraduate majors of New Energy Materials and Devices, Hydrogen Energy Science and Engineering, and New Energy Science and Engineering. New Energy Materials and Devices is the original Electrochemical Engineering major, which was founded in 1985. It is the first Electrochemical Engineering major in the five provinces of Central and South China and the third in China. After nearly 40 years of development, graduates are widely distributed in the field of new energy. Hydrogen Energy Science and Engineering was approved in 2023, which is the second batch of undergraduate majors in Hydrogen Energy Science and Engineering (080506TK, a national special control point major) in China and the only undergraduate major in the field of hydrogen energy in Henan Province. It has established four provincial/departmental platforms such as the Henan Green Energy and Power Equipment Engineering Technology Research Center, the Henan International Joint Experiment on Ceramic-based New Energy Materials, the Zhengzhou Key Laboratory of Green Chemical Power Source, and the Zhengzhou Key Laboratory of Energy Conversion and Biocatalysis.
In recent years, the College of New Energy has hosted more than 10 National Natural Science Foundation projects (key projects, general projects, and youth projects), hosted more than 20 provincial/ministerial projects, won 8 provincial/ministerial awards, applied for more than 80 national invention patents, been authorized more than 50 national invention patents, published more than 10 monographs/textbooks, and published more than 100 high-quality academic papers in domestic and foreign journals, which strongly supported three disciplines of Engineering, Chemistry and Materials Science of Zhengzhou University of Light Industry to enter ESI Ranked among the top 1% in the world. Teachers at the College of New Energy have been selected as China's Highly Cited Researchers for many consecutive years and been selected into the list of global Highly Cited Scientists in 2022.
The College of New Energy currently has more than 630 undergraduate students and more than 40 graduate students. It attaches great importance to academic cooperation and exchanges at home and abroad. It has invited academicians of science/engineering and well-known industry scholars to give lectures in person for several times, sent many teachers to study/visit abroad, and sponsored young teachers and graduate students to participate in domestic and foreign academic conferences. It upholds the educational philosophy of student-centered, output-oriented, continuous improvement, actively promotes university-enterprise collaborative education, deepens the integration of industry and education, and cultivates high-quality application-oriented and innovative talents that meet the needs of modern industries. Most of our graduates are employed in PuTaiLai, ZongChuangXinHang, GuoXuan GaoKe, XinWangDa, Honeycomb Energy, FuNeng, HuaYou Cobalt, Yiwei Lithium Energy, YuTong Group, DuoFuDuo, TianNeng Group, and other new energy companies, or have been admitted to prestigious domestic/foreign universities to study for doctoral degrees. Its graduates are all over the new energy industry and it enjoys high visibility and reputation in the industry.
