The energy release in a microflare and the ASO-S mission
Speaker: Zhentong Li (PMO)
Venue: Video Conference
Time: 12:30 PM, Monday, Oct. 31, 2022
Abstract:
Solar corona heating and energy release processes are important topics in astrophysics. In this talk, I will first introduce the basic concepts in solar high energy processes. Then I will present a comprehensive, quantitative analysis of energy release and plasma heating processes in an interesting microflare, which shows the existence of a nonthermal component down to 6.5 keV in the X-ray spectrum. In this study, we report the first imaging evidence for low-energy cutoff of energetic electrons. This study reveals the important role of electron thermalization and low-energy cutoffs in the physical processes of microflares. On the other hand, I will briefly introduce China's first dedicated solar observatory, ASO-S, which was launched earlier this month.
