Zhangjiang Estuary Mangrove Wetland Ecosystem Station (M-ECORS) is one of the important field research platforms in the laboratory. It is located at the Zhangjiang Estuary Mangrove National Natural Reserve, Yunxiao County, Zhangzhou City (Fujian Province, China). M-ECORS was established in August 2008 and officially approved as a Observation and Research Station of Fujian Province in December 2018. Now it’s a Sub-Station of the National Observation and Research Station for the of Marine Ecosystem in Taiwan Strait of Fujian Province. M-ECORS focuses on the structures and functions of typical coastal wetland ecosystems such as mangroves, the maintenance mechanism of biodiversity, and the response of ecosystems to global changes and human activities. It is committed to build a continuous field observation for the wetland-estuary-bay ecosystems, an open and shared scientific research platform for coastal wetland ecosystem, a high-quality talent training and public education base, and a distinctive international cooperation station.

In order to effectively enhance the hardware support capacity building, M-ECORS actively promote the construction of complex buildings (named M-ECORS building). Construction of the building began in April 2019, completed in April 2021, and officially put into use in July 2021. The M-ECORS building has a total land area of 18 acres and a total construction space of 10,039 m2. It is a multi-functional platform supporting science, education and social services for their rooms including scientific research rooms, accommodation rooms, teaching rooms and canteens. The M-ECORS building provides strong hardware facilities for wetland ecosystem scientific research, multidisciplinary high-level personnel training, characteristic international cooperation and exchange and social services.
