Title: The sharpest view of the cosmic objects taken by VLBI

Speaker: Tao An, Research Fellow (射电天文研究与技术创新中心主任,65米望远镜副首席科学家)
Institute: Shanghai Astronomical Observatory
Time: 2017.03.30(Thursday) 14:30
Place: Physics Building 573, Haiyun Campus, Xiamen University
Abstract:
The talk consists of three parts. Part I : general introduction of VLBI principle and major VLBI networks; Part II : VLBI science frontiers; Part III : enhanced capability of global VLBI with the inclusion of FAST in future, and potential impacts on VLBI sciences.

Introduction of the speaker:
Dr. Tao An is a radio astronomer from Shanghai Astronomical Observatory, the Chinese Academy of Sciences. His main research interests are the high-resolution imaging of compact cosmic objects (including active galactic nucleus, masers and pulsars), and radio techniques including VLBI and SKA. He has been working on VLBI science for 16 years with a record of more than 50 VLBI-related peer-reviewed publications. Now he serves for the propopsal review panels of European VLBI Network and East Asia VLBI Network.  In recent years he leads a science and technique team to promote the SKA project. Espercially efforts are made on planning and establishing an SKA regional centre in Asia.
