On the afternoon of December 27, School of Foreign Studies (SFS) held an online-and-offline seminar on “Building a Community of Teaching in General Education Courses Based on Research on Teachers' Beliefs”. The seminar was presided over by Associate Professor Niu Li, with teachers and postgraduates of SFS attended.

Dr. Gao Yang, a research fellow and top-notch young scholar of Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), gave a lecture on “Beliefs of Foreign Language Teachers: from Theory to Practice”. He introduced the major concepts in research on foreign language teacher beliefs, its significance, and the current research status at home and abroad. Dr. Gao also shared some cases of papers on teacher beliefs research, and introduced the future directions of teacher beliefs research from four dimensions, including research contents, theoretical perspectives, research methods and research objects, which provided inspirations for the teaching of general education courses. After the lecture, Dr. Gao had discussions with teachers atteded the seminar.

This seminar was initiated by a sub-research project group of the “SFS Organization of Teaching and Teachers Development”. The sub-research project aims to build a community of teaching in general education courses from the perspective of teacher beliefs, so as to promote communication and exchanges among general education course teachers in the SFS, enhance their teaching and researching abilities, and raise the quality of general education courses.
