From November 10 to 12, 2023, Prof. Ma Xiaomei, Prof. Meng Yaru from the School of Foreign Studies (SFS), Gao Yang, SFS research fellow, and members of SFS language testing and assessment team attended the 7th International Conference on Language Testing and Assessment and the 5th National Symposium on Classroom Second Language Acquisition.
Prof. Ma Xiaomei led an 8-member delegation and attended the 7th International Conference on Language Testing and Assessment held at South China Normal University with the theme of "Promoting an Interdisciplinary View of Language Testing and Assessment". She presided over the first session on "Cognition-Diagnostic Testing and Assessment". Dr. Du Wenbo and other team members gave academic reports at different sessions.
Prof. Meng Yaru and Dr. Gao Yang attended the 5th National Symposium on Classroom Second Language Acquisition held in Hangzhou Dianzi University.
Prof. Meng Yaru was elected as a new executive council member of the CACSEC Association for Language Testing and Assessment (CALTA), and Dr. Du Wenbo as a new council member, which marks a significant presence of northwest region in the field of language testing and assessment in China. Meanwhile, SFS has obtained the right to host the 6th National Symposium on Classroom Second Language Acquisition in China, which would be held in Xi’an in 2024. Dr. Gao Yang spoke as a representative of the hosting unit to extend warm welcome to all the representatives present at the conference.
Such academic exchanges and discussions provide a stage for SFS team of language testing and assessment to present their academic fruits and expand the academic horizons all team members. The participants expressed that attending such academic conferences helps them to have a broader, more comprehensive and systematic perspective on cutting-edge research in language testing and assessment, especially on the significance of digitization of language teaching and practical testing.
