Mission

Urban Lab focuses on three interrelated research topics: sustainable futures, liveable futures, and smart futures, or a hybrid of some or even all of these ideas.

  • Sustainable Futures applies the principles of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals to city planning and management to embrace climate change mitigation and adaptation.
  • Liveable Futures studies the complexity of cities from social, cultural, political and economic perspectives to be more interconnected and interactive between the built environment and its inhabitants.
  • Smart Futures investigates how our cities can use innovative technologies to enhance the quality of life for the city’s inhabitants by improving the ways people live, learn, work, and play.

Vision

Urban Lab is empowered by critical inquiry to go beyond the conventional debates and discussions on the climate change challenges that contemporary cities and societies face. We are committed to generating new knowledge and insights for the better future of our cities.
