On December 13th, a quarterly progress meeting was held at Huazhong Agricultural University for the major project of the National Social Science Fund titled “Collection, Collation and Research of Chinese Ancient Agricultural Books”, headed by Professor Ping Wu. More than twenty experts, scholars, and postgraduate students from universities, research institutions, libraries, and publishing houses such as Wuhan University, Huazhong Agricultural University, Hubei Second Normal University, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hubei Provincial Library, Hubei Science and Technology Press, and Xinjiang Kashgar Publishing House attended the meeting.
The research team of Sub-project I presented their quarterly academic achievements, hosted by Di Zhou, Director of the Library at Huazhong Agricultural University.
Denghan Song from the Library of Wuhan University, gave academic presentation on topic Examples of Distinguishing Academic Schools and Tracing Origins in Writing Abstracts for Overseas Ancient Agricultural Books.
Qinfang Wu from the Library of Wuhan University, gave academic presentation on topic Writing Guidelines for Abstracts of the Comprehensive Catalogue of Overseas Agricultural Books.
Ren Xia from the Library of Huazhong Agricultural University, gave academic presentation on topic Report on the Compilation of Editions and Circulation Tables for Directory of Overseas Collections of Ancient Chinese Agricultural Books.
Representatives of other sub-projects shared quarterly research progress. Wei Liu from Hubei Provincial Library, reported on Proofreading and Compilation of the Collection of Prefaces and Postscripts of Ancient Chinese Fisheries Books, Mo Wang from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, reported on Concepts and Methods of Studying Ancient Agricultural Images Represented by Farming and Weaving Pictures, Ziyang Weng from the School of Remote Sensing and Information Engineering at Wuhan University, reported on Resource Expansion and Model Optimization of Knowledge Service Platforms for Open Sharing of Ancient Agricultural Book Resources, and Xinye Li from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Huazhong Agriculture University, reported on Knowledge Systems, Social Dissemination, and Activation Utilization of Ancient Agricultural Books.
Professor Kun Qin from the School of Remote Sensing and Information Engineering at Wuhan University commented on the research outcomes of each sub-project and suggested that quarterly achievements should be presented together within the context of annual research.
Ping Wu and members of each sub-project discussed issues and obstacles encountered during the research process. They also looked forward to and deployed work plans for the next year. The meeting released the Requirements for the Final Report of Collection, Collation and Research of Chinese Ancient Agricultural Books, clarifying the task description and roadmap for project conclusion, and providing guidance for each sub-project’s work in the next phase.
