Introduction: Dr. Maurizio Battino is currently a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the Medical School of the Università Politecnica delle Marche, Italy. He has served as the director of the Nutrition and Food Science Research Center at the University of Vigo in Spain, the director of the Nutrition and Health Center at the European Atlantic University in Spain, and the executive director of the Iberian American University Foundation in Italy. Dr. Maurizio Battino has 30 years of research experience in bioenergy and food science, particularly in exploring the functions of natural antioxidants. He has made outstanding contributions and has been recognized as a high impact scientist in global agricultural science by Clarivate for eight consecutive years. The research team has been focusing on food nutrition research for a long time, studying the application of correct special diets (mainly including berries and honey) and their bioactive substances to alleviate chronic diseases. So far, he has published over 600 high-level papers in internationally renowned journals and served as the editor in chief of three academic journals (Journal of Berry Research, Mediterranean Journal of Nutrition & Metabolism, International Journal of Molecular Sciences & Diseases, associate editors of three academic journals (Food Chemistry, Molecules, and Phytomedicine), and editorial board members of three journals (Plant Food for Human Nutrition, Nutrition and Aging, and Food Chemical Toxicology).
