On January 6, 2024, a seminar on the construction of first-class undergraduate textbooks for instrumentation, organized by Jiangsu Instrumentation Society and its Education and Teaching Specialized Committee and hosted by Jiangsu University, was successfully held at Jiangsu University. The theme of the conference was "Exploring the Co-construction of Quality Textbooks by Schools and Enterprises, and Promoting the Co-construction and Sharing of Excellent Textbooks." Professor Zeng Zhoumo, Director of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Instrumentation Majors in Colleges and Universities under the Ministry of Education, Professor Song Aiguo, Chairman of Jiangsu Instrumentation Society, Professor Xing Hongyan, Vice Chairman of China Meteorological, Hydrological, and Oceanographic Instrumentation Society, Professor Ren Xudong, Vice President of Jiangsu University, Professor Yin Bifeng, Director of the Academic Affairs Office of Jiangsu University, Secretary Pan Hongjun from the School of Mechanical Engineering at Jiangsu University, Professor Zhu Xuefen, Vice Dean of the School of Instrument Science and Engineering at Southeast University, Director Xiao Hui from Zhenjiang Metrological Verification and Testing Center, and Professor Xu Zhenying, Vice Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering at Jiangsu University attended the meeting. Additionally, more than 40 expert representatives from the Education and Teaching Specialized Committee of Jiangsu Instrumentation Society, instrumentation majors in provincial universities, and instrumentation-related enterprises participated in the conference.

During the meeting, Vice President Ren Xudong delivered a welcoming speech on behalf of Jiangsu University. He briefly introduced the development history of Jiangsu University, as well as the instrumentation discipline and related majors at the university. He emphasized that textbooks are an important medium for knowledge transmission and the cornerstone of teaching reform. Exploring the co-construction of quality textbooks by schools and enterprises, and promoting the co-construction and sharing of excellent textbooks, will facilitate the development of national planning textbooks and excellent textbooks during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period. This will lay a solid foundation for the cultivation of high-level talent in instrumentation in Jiangsu and even across the country.

Professor Song Aiguo, Chairman of Jiangsu Instrumentation Society, delivered a speech on behalf of the society. He pointed out that textbooks are an essential foundation for higher education, and promoting the construction of first-class undergraduate textbooks for instrumentation majors in Jiangsu Province will provide support for teaching reform in universities. The society will strongly support the co-construction and sharing of teaching resources, including textbooks and courses, among instrumentation majors in provincial universities and between schools and enterprises. He also expressed the hope that this effort will yield more outstanding achievements and lay a solid foundation for cultivating more excellent talents in the instrumentation industry in Jiangsu Province and even across the country.

The conference invited three special reports. Firstly, Professor Zeng Zhoumo from Tianjin University, Director of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Instrumentation Majors under the Ministry of Education, gave the first special report on the topic of "Initial Ideas for the Construction of Textbooks for Instrumentation Majors." Based on the teaching reform project of the Ministry of Education, Director Zeng introduced the background, guiding ideology, and initial ideas for the construction of textbooks for instrumentation majors. Starting with the research results of "Research and Construction of Textbooks in the Field of Intelligent Sensing," he presented the thinking of experts from the Teaching Guidance Committee on the design of knowledge and ability systems in the cultivation of instrumentation professionals. This provided an overall framework and basis for the curriculum system design and textbook construction of instrumentation majors. In his report, he pointed out that four elements should be grasped in textbook construction: the sensing needs of typical engineering problems; attention to changes in the service mode of sensing systems caused by the development of information technology; the aggregation and fusion of similar and dissimilar multi-source sensing information; and the combination of knowledge system construction and engineering literacy cultivation.

Professor Song Aiguo, Chairman of the Jiangsu Instrumentation Society and a faculty member at Southeast University, presented the second special report titled "Some Experiences and Insights on Excellent Textbook Construction." In his presentation, Professor Song began by highlighting the significance of textbook development and the challenges it encounters. He then shared invaluable experiences from his involvement in compiling the nationally recognized textbook, "Sensor Technology."Emphasizing the key elements for creating outstanding textbooks, Professor Song noted that the first step is to assemble a high-caliber editorial team. Secondly, it's essential to establish a long-term and stable revision plan that effectively incorporates scientific research findings. Furthermore, he underscored the importance of balancing systematic and cutting-edge content, integrating theory with practical case studies, and focusing on the development of online textbook resources and digital textbooks in new formats.

Professor Xing Hongyan, Vice Chairman of the China Meteorological, Hydrological, and Oceanographic Instrumentation Society and a professor at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, delivered the third invited report on the theme of "Analysis and Reflections on the Construction of National First-Class Curriculum Textbooks." Professor Xing shared the writing ideas, characteristics, and advanced experiences of the national first-class courses "High-Frequency Electronic Circuits" and "Introduction and Advancement of Electronic Information Majors." Additionally, she conducted in-depth reflections on the textbook compilation for instrumentation majors and provided valuable suggestions.

During the discussion session, four representatives from different enterprises shared their perspectives on the integration of industry and education in textbook construction, requirements for talent cultivation in instrumentation majors, and suggestions for school-enterprise joint training. They were Cui Shanchao, Deputy General Manager of Jiangsu Suyi Group Co., Ltd., Xiao Hui, Director of the Zhenjiang Metrology Verification and Testing Center, Zhang Lei, Lithography Equipment Supervisor at the Manufacturing Center of China Resources Microelectronics Co., Ltd., and Wu Qiongshui, R&D Expert at Nanjing Hopus Technology Co., Ltd. Each of them spoke based on the actual situation of their respective companies.Following their presentations, members of the Instrumentation Education and Teaching Special Committee and representatives from universities expressed their views and suggestions on the co-construction and sharing of textbooks.

This meeting achieved a strong consensus among instrumentation majors in provincial universities and instrumentation-related enterprises on the co-compilation, co-construction, and sharing of high-quality teaching resources. This consensus will play a significant role in promoting the development of first-class undergraduate textbooks for instrumentation majors in Jiangsu Province.
