On April 2nd, Prof. Liu Guifeng, Director of the Institute of Science and Technology Information at Jiangsu University, was invited to the School of Foreign Languages to give an academic lecture titled “The Perception of Scientific Research”. The lecture was hosted by Li Xia, Deputy Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, and attracted nearly 80 faculty members and students.
Prof. Liu Guifeng first introduced the similarities and differences between natural scientific research and social scientific research, and proposed the use of the DIKW model to guide research. Subsequently, he delved into the “four aspects” principle for selecting topics and the four main sources of topics. Furthermore, combining his own experience in applying for research projects, Prof. Liu explained the techniques and related considerations for project application. After that, he outlined the four characteristics of excellent academic papers: scientificity, creativity, theoretical depth, and accessibility, and also listed the commonly used research methods in foreign language teaching research.
Through comprehensive discussions, Prof. Liu Guifeng delved into the research methods and scientific research paradigms in a manner that was both theoretical and practical, deepening the understanding of the faculty and students present. This, thereby, enhanced their skills in project application and academic paper writing. After the lecture, Prof. Liu actively answered questions from the faculty and students, and he received unanimous praise from those present. Everyone expressed that they had greatly benefited from the session.
This academic lecture not only broadened the academic horizons of our faculty and students but also provided valuable guidance and reference for our scientific research work. We believe that through a series of lectures aimed at enhancing scientific research literacy, they will be more confident and capable of achieving brilliant accomplishments in the future on the academic path.
