In order to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and people around the world and promote China's exchange and cooperation with other countries in various fields, the Chinese government sets up scholarships for talented students and scholars to pursue higher education or conduct research in Chinese universities.

1. Coverage

① Full CGS:

• Tuition: full CGS holders will receive the tuition waiver.

• Month stipend: a CGS holder will receive the living allowance on a monthly basis starting from the date when he or she registers at the university and when the Scholarship is in effect already.

• Standard:

• Accommodation: for CGS holders who live on campus, free university dormitories will be offered according to the accommodation standard of the Scholarship. For CGS holders who live off campus, accommodation subsidy will be given on a regular basis according to the CGS accommodation standard.

• Medical insurance: the comprehensive medical insurance is purchased by CSC for international students who are offered this component in the Scholarship, which is CNY 800 per person per year.

② Partial GGS: one or some items from the full CGS coverage.

*The distribution of CGS will be adjusted according to policies and regulations of higher authorities.

2. Type

① Type A: students apply for the CGS by themselves through Chinese embassies, consulates or dispatching authorities in their home countries.

② Type B: students apply for the CGS through Tsinghua University. To be eligible, an applicant must have been pre-admitted by Tsinghua University.

3. Application

Current full-time international graduate students at Tsinghua University who have not been granted CGS at the time of admission may still apply for CGS of type B, while they cannot apply for CGS of type A. Students can apply for CGS through Tsinghua University only at the time of admission.

Tuition Scholarships, for example, the Beijing Government Scholarship for International Students and Tsinghua University Tuition Scholarship, cover full or partial tuition fee with a duration of one academic year. Applicants may apply for Tuition Scholarships annually.

Tsinghua University Tuition Scholarship

All on-site registered students without full scholarship are qualified to apply the Top-up scholarship provided by School of Environment.

1. Coverage: accommodation (rent and average living cost)

2. Duration: one academic year

Applicants can apply for Top-up Scholarship annually.

4. Assessment: for second-year students, the financial support will be re-assessed by the grades in their first years’ study; for the students cannot graduate on time, Top-up scholarship will not be provided.

Tsinghua University offers opportunities of Teaching Assistantship, Research Assistantship, and Management Assistantship for current graduate students. Usually, applications for assistantships are open in the beginning of each semester.

Outstanding current Chinese and international graduate students can compete for awards and honors at Tsinghua University. The reward and honor system includes Top Grade Award, Jiang Nanxiang Award, Graduate Students All-Round Excellence Awards, Specialized Awards, school/department awards, and Outstanding Doctoral and Master's Graduates of Tsinghua University.
