A native of Xining, Qinghai, Wei Junyu has earned his bachelor's, and doctoral degrees from Tsinghua University, specifically from the Department of Computer Science. Throughout his Ph.D. program, he focused on data compression with the goal of developing green, compact, and efficient data storage systems. His research has been instrumental in addressing the exponential growth of data and the tightening of energy constraints, aligning with global sustainability and green development goals.
He believes that innovation must transcend theoretical constructs and be rooted in practical, real-world impact. Reflecting on his Ph.D. journey, his most significant achievement was transforming from a learner to a researcher, adopting a targeted, goal-oriented approach to deep, specific inquiries. His research has successfully tackled the practical challenges of PB-scale cloud log storage, with a projected annual economic benefit of 200 million RMB. His work has been published in top international conferences and journals, such as FAST, Eurosys, and TOS.
He has served as the Secretary of the Graduate Student Union in the Department of Computer Science and was the main lecturer of the department's classical reading class. His dedication and achievements during his Ph.D. studies earned him numerous honors, including the National Scholarship, Tsinghua University's Jiang Nanxiang Scholarship, the Zhong Shimo Scholarship (the highest honor for computer science students), and Tsinghua University Outstanding Communist Youth League Member.
Having witnessed the transformative progress of Tsinghua University, he feels immense pride and optimism for the future of his alma mater's. After graduation, he plans to stay at Tsinghua University as a postdoctoral researcher and expand his research from specific projects to broader applications. His ultimate goal is to engage in teaching and mentoring, to influence and support the growth of future students, and to make meaningful contributions to their lives.
