课程内容简介

Abstract algebra is the foundation of much of modern mathematics, but its origin can be traced back to the ancient problem of finding a formula for the roots of polynomial equations in terms of radicals, as well as Gauss' famous construction of the regular heptadecagon. In this course, we cover the basic concepts of abstract algebra: rings, fields, and groups, illustrating these concepts with concrete examples. Time permitting we offer a glimpse of Galois Theory.
