From May 25th to 26th, "Toyota Cup" The 2nd National College Innovation Competition of Industrial Engineering and Lean Management (hereinafter refer to as "Toyota Cup") was held in Tianjin University(hereinafter refer to as TJU). With the topic "Keeping improving and strengthening the country by innovation", the contest is designed to implement the requirements of 19th Communist Party of China National Congress about "Speed up the construction of manufacturing power, speed up the development of advanced manufacturing industry, speed up the construction of an innovative country" and promote the popularization and application of Industrial Engineering and Lean Management methods and technologies, broaden the horizons of scientific and technological innovation of college students, and build a platform for the display of innovative achievements and experience exchange of Industrial Engineering and Lean Management for teachers and students of colleges and scientific and technological workers of enterprises and institutions.
Following the 2018 "Gree Cup" The 1st National College Innovation Competition of Industrial Engineering and Lean Management successfully held in Tianjin University, "Toyota Cup" combined with industrial practice for innovation on the basis of "Gree Cup". It not only set up the "undergraduate group", "graduate student group", but also attempted to set up "industry group" for enterprise. The competition, which was officially launched in January 2019, had become a national sensation, in which 37 teams competing went through preliminary rounds to compete in the finals. On the site of the finals, 37 teams shared and displayed their cases of Industrial Engineering or Lean Management innovation. Experts of the judging panel reviewed and scored the entries based on their topics, research methods, benefits and effects as well as team capabilities. Finally, two teams from the undergraduate group and the industry group won the Special Prize, six teams won the First Prize, eleven teams won the Second Prize, eighteen teams won the Third Prize, eleven universities, including Zhejiang University of Technology and TJU, were awarded the title of "Excellent Organizer".
The prize presentation ceremony was held on the morning of 26th, Shibakawa Hayato, General Manager of Faw Toyota Motor co., LTD.(hereinafter refer to as Toyota), Li Zheng, Chairman of Guidance Commission on Industrial Engineering Education under Ministry of Education of P.R.C and Vice President of Tsinghua University, Wei-min Lu, CPC Party Chief and Vice Executive President of Tianjin Science and Technology Association, Yong-kang Dai, CPC Party Chief and Director General of Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, Min Lei, Deputy CPC Party Chief of TJU, Zhi-cheng Zuo, Director-General of the Chinese Institute of Electronic labor, Chao-zhi Chen, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Zhi-yong Pei, Division Director of the Administrative Center for China’s Agenda 21, Quan-chao Li and Hamamoto Jikang, Office Director and Deputy Office Director of Faw Toyota Motor co., LTD., Shan-zhao Bao, Secretary-General of the Chinese Institute of Electronic labor, Xing-hua Li and Yuan Wang, committee members of Guidance Commission on Industrial Engineering Education under Ministry of Education of P.R.C, Min Jiang from Continuing Education Department of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Qing-xin Chen, chief editor of Industrial Engineering Journal, Er-shi Qi, Chairman of the contest organizing committee and Executive Director of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, Shou-feng Ma, CPC Party Chief of the CoME, Zhao-fang Mao, Vice Dean of the CoME and other guests attended.
Professor Er-shi Qi delivered a speech on behalf of the organizing committee at the award ceremony, after reviewing the historical process of Industrial Engineering. He pointed out the important role of Industrial Engineering in innovation strategy and prospected the future development of Industrial Engineering.
Li Zheng, Chairman of Guidance Commission on Industrial Engineering Education under Ministry of Education of P.R.C and Vice President of Tsinghua, delivered a speech, pointing out that the competition provideed a good opportunity for Industrial Engineering to display its achievements in industrial practice, and played an important role in promoting the combination of school and enterprise, industry and education.
Chao-zhi Chen, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, delivered a speech, pointing out that the competition had a unique innovation in the competition system, which was of great significance to the cultivation of Industrial Engineering talents. Industrial Engineering and Lean Management havd made great achievements under the two-wheel drive of scientific and technological innovation and management innovation.
Yong-kang Dai, CPC Party Chief and Director General of Tianjin Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, gave a speech that the Industrial Engineering would make greater contributions to the intelligent transformation of Tianjin's manufacturing industry. Tianjin attached great importance to the development of innovation and entrepreneurship; Industrial Engineering and lean production played an important role in serving Tianjin's industrial upgrading and the strategic layout of the country's major science and technology industries.
Wei-min Lu, CPC Party Chief and Vice Executive President of Tianjin Science and Technology Association pointed out that Industrial Engineering was an important pillar of providing management guidance. The successful holding of the competition was an innovative practice case of Industrial Engineering and Lean Management, which played an important role in cultivating high-quality talents.
Shibakawa Hayato, General Manager of Toyota, delivered a speech. he first reviewed the history of Toyota lean production and pointed out the important position of lean production in Toyota industry practice. Toyota hoped to build a demonstration and exchange platform of Industrial Engineering and Lean Management for teachers, students and peers in the industry, broaden the horizons of scientific and technological innovation of college students, and reserve talents for the future development of the industry.
Min Lei, Deputy CPC Party Chief of TJU, made a speech. She pointed out that TJU was committed to cultivating talents and would continue to explore the development of "New Engineering" platform in the future. This competition had a positive role in promoting the overall win-win cooperation between industry and universities.
At the award ceremony, Bin Liu from Toyota shared the cases of Lean Management of Toyota and emphasized the important role of Industrial Engineering and Lean Production in practical industrial production.
The innovative development of Industrial Engineering and Lean Management implements the goal of "Striving to build a strong scientific and technological country in the world" proposed by President Jin-ping Xi at the Ninth National People's Congress. This competition also further reflects the significance of Industrial Engineering talent cultivation. The innovative methods and system optimization brought by Industrial Engineering theory for the development of enterprises become an important impetus for scientific and technological innovation and management innovation.
The competition makes every effort to further promote the innovation in Industrial Engineering and Lean Management method of popularization and application, broaden students' science and technology innovation vision, build a platform for the display and experience exchange of Industrial Engineering and Lean Management innovation results for teachers and students of colleges and all walks of life, so as to comprehensively promote the university-enterprise cooperation and comprehensive win-win situation of Industrial Engineering and Lean Management innovation development.
