Relying on the national key discipline of biochemical engineering of Tianjin University, the key laboratory of the ministry of education on bio-engineering system has been officially founded in December, 2007 after the approval of the education ministry. In July, 2010 it has passed the acceptance of experts of education ministry which has been the earliest established key laboratory of developing the researches on bio-engineering system and synthetic biology and one of the earliest units to develop synthetic biology researches. The laboratory focuses on the vital demand of biological medicine, energy, biological chemical synthesis and leads the researches on systemic bio-engineering. In order to be an institution which can play an international role in this field and which can be an important base to cultivate high potential talents, the laboratory centers on biological engineering, synthetic biology and biological information analysis process and combines the model simulation with experiment and positions on the basic research on systemic bio-engineering.
