The International Research Centre for Chinese Cultural Heritage Conservation, Tianjin University, was founded in 2006 by Prof. Xu Subin and Prof. Aoki Nobuo of the School of Architecture at Tianjin University to contribute to the preservation of China's cultural heritage. Now, the Centre has become a key scientific research base in Tianjin and one of the first University Think Tanks, assuming the triple functions of scientific research, education, and the think tank. (1) The team has undertaken a number of Major Projects of the National Social Science Foundation, the General Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation and hosted or participated in a number of national, provincial, and ministerial projects, which makes it an important scientific research team in the field of research and preservation of China's modern urban and architectural heritage. (2) Professors Xu Subin and Nobuo Aoki conduct courses on the conservation of Asian cultural heritage and the methodology of cultural heritage conservation, and the graduate students under their supervision have won many domestic and international awards for scientific research and innovation, as well as awards for excellent theses. Their team was awarded the Staff Pioneer by Tianjin University. Dedicated to promoting Chinese cultural heritage overseas, they undertake courses on the history of Chinese architecture and heritage preservation as visiting professors at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. (3) The think tank has been highly evaluated by the three major think tank evaluation systems in China, and it is ranked among the top ten think tanks in China in the category of culture. In 2022, the research outcome has won the CTTI China Think Tank Grand Prize.
