Associate Professor Chuhan Deng from the School of Civil Engineering at Tianjin University chaired the lecture and introduced the guest speaker. In this lecture, Professor Jian-Hua YIN gave an introduction of settlement problems related to clayey soils, the causes and mechanisms of consolidation and creep, including but not limited to: (1) Hypothesis A and Hypothesis B methods for calculating consolidation settlements of clayey soils, (2) fully coupled methods with different Elastic Visco-Plastic Models for consolidation analysis of clayey soils, (3) a simplified Hypothesis B Method for one-layer and multilayers of clayey soils. and (4) a general simple method and verification, (5) conclusions and remarks on these methods presented. After the presentation, Professor Jian-Hua YIN and attendees engaged in a lively discussion on relevant issues. Teacher Ran Zhu presented a certificate to Professor Jian-Hua YIN and took a group photo for commemoration.

Introduction to Professor Jian-Hua YIN:

Professor Jian-Hua YIN is currently a Ph.D. supervisor and chair professor of Soil Mechanics of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He is mainly engaged in the teaching and scientific research of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering. He is the leader of the rock and soil group. Professor Jian-Hua YIN is mainly engaged in the study of soft soil mechanics. He has made world-class original contributions to the rheological mechanical properties, theoretical models and consolidation analysis methods of soft soil, solved the key scientific problems of soft soil mechanics and engineering analysis, and greatly promoted the development of soft soil and geotechnical engineering disciplines. In addition, he has achieved fruitful original results in the research and development of optical fiber sensing monitoring technology, its application in geotechnical engineering and the research and development of geotechnical test equipment.
